Sorry, just watched like 5 threads on the 800 and 200 disappear so I'm betting this will too.
the nikon comes in at $3,999.95 so I'd say the canon will be $3500 to start, then maybe dip to $3000.

I hear what you are saying, but rather than browsing through a really long thread, it seems more practical to be able to choose a wider range of topics in a more horizontal fashion. Didn't mean to try to take over the other thread or anything.

As I've said in a few other threads that are proclaiming $5000 stickers for this thing:

Canon...............Nikon
500 f/4 IS is $5500..........500 f/4 VR is $6799!
400 f/2.8 IS is $6500........400 f/2.8 (NON-VR!) is $6999.
300 f/2.8 IS is $3899........300 f/2.8 VR is $4299

See...every Canon lens is cheaper than its Nikon equivalent, and in the case of the 500 f/4...we're talking $1300!

Now, the Nikon 200mm f/2 VR is $3990. Therfore, I don't think Canon will sell the 200 f/2L IS for any more than that, and I'd wager they will probably price it at $3799. Canon does NOT want to be more expensive than the Nikon when they're coming late to the 200 f/2 IS party.

I don't think so since the new 200 and 800 lenses are categorized as 'under development' rather than 'available in ...'

I could care less what a lens looks like. Its the images it can deliver thats important. If this lens is anything like its 1.8 cousin it should be a real beauty.
