1Ds MKII high ISO question

Hi

Am looking at getting a 1Ds MKII as a backup for my 5D

I shoot mostly weddings and portraits so it would need to be good at high ISO's

I don't really want another 5D as I like the build etc of the 1D series - I've been put off getting a 1D MKIII due to the problems.

Anybody have real life use of both these who can comment on the performance of one against the other in image quality.

Hmmmm, I would think most people would have the 5D as the backup to the 1Ds, not vice versa.

I use a 1DS II and normally stay away from using ISO 50 and 3200 due to there being less dynamic range with these settings ( so I am told). As I shoot mainly landscapes this would be important. If your subject doesn't require high dynamic range then the 50 and 3200 would be an option.
However looking through the mags I rarely see use of ISO 50 with this camera.
I would shoot up to ISO 800 and be assured of little or no noise. I have never had reason to go higher.

I think this would be where I was going - using the 5D inside dimly lit churches etc

I agree, interesting... Perhaps OP prefers lighter weight of the 5D? I have not used 1DsmkII but suspect better high iso performance of 5D due to larger pixels.

I'm hoping to get the 1DS Mark III as a backup for my 1DS Mark II.

The high ISO is very good though I try not to go above 800 ISO. I do have occasional problems with hot pixels (easily cloned).

Have you used a 5D - would you say the quality of the 1DS II image is better
