Hello Everyone!

I just got my 30D back from Canon to have them clean the sensor and focus screen. When I sent it to them it had 300 shots at the most on it. When I got it back, I took a test shot and it read over 3500 shots!!!

Now I know they didn't take that many test shots, so what I'm thinking (hoping) is since I didn't send it to them with a CF card in the camera, they must have inserted a CF card with ~3500 shots on it and when I got it back today and inserted my CF card, the camera remembered what was in it last, their card with 3500 shots on it.

Does this sound right to any of you? There is no way they took that many shots with my camera. I checked the serial number and it is indeed mine.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi Nate,

I'd put money on them banging a card in just as a final diagnostic to check it'll write an image correctly.

Don't think you have anything to worry about! :D

They prob used a memory card that started with the advanced image #. If you use a card with images on it and lets say the image # is 8000 then the next image would be 8001 even though the camera could be brand new.

If you have 2 CFs you can do this. Save the most recently used CF. Format the other one using your computer. Then put it in the camera and use the menu to do a manual reset of file #s. Then turn off the camera and put in the saved CF. Turn the camera back on and you are where you were.

Don't panic or be afraid. It's 99% likely that Canon popped in a CF card used on a 'senior' camera which has gone thru more shots. Yea, it's like a disease when one camera spreads its file number to another... lucky it's cure-able in the method described by DDan but I wish Canon used a 100-0001 IMG CF card instead so we won't have to reset each time!

As the nurse in the clinic said, "Be careful where you put that thing!"
