yea it truely is worthless. sure if you are a soccer mom with a point and shoot you might print directly onto a little compact printer, but no one is going to print out of a dslr like that, its so dumb. and even for the people who would use it it would be far easier to just use the menu option instead of dedicating a whole worthless button on the camera body to a feature that 99.999999999999999% of users will never touch.

I still think the print button is useless, even though I know a number of people that print directly without an PP, these people purchase printers with card readers built in, and insert the card, not hook up the camera. It's a far more sensible solution.

I guess Canon could have the best of both Worlds. Make the button programmable.. that way people that are attracted to the feature would buy their printer (and ink) and also include the rebate/coupon in a camera to 'lead the horse' so to speak. Either way, they get more ink sales which I argue is ther ultimate goal.

I work in a neonatal intensive care ward. We have a Canon P&S and a little photo printer....it is the only photo of their babies while they are alive.

That must be a sad situation. Glad the technology is working for you and the families.

Well my post was intended to present more of a Win Win solution for Canon and the Consumer. Canon gets their ink sales and loyal customers save a Buck/Quid/Rouble/Lira/Euro/Dong/Colon/Ringit/Peso/Yen/Rand/Pound etc on the hardware. People buying any printer with card readers doesn't do anything for Canon. Where's Canon's motivation ?

I'm going to use the direct print button just once just so I can say I did it.

Anyone notice the Canon 100$ printer rebate with purchase of XT, XTi or 40D ? It's available 'Exclusively' through B&H and started a week after I started this post.

Coincidence ? - If there's anything else you want just tell me and Ill start another thread.:D

BTW- Canon called me at home to tell me they are going to make the print button user configurable...

..

Not !

(but the rebate is true and it's for the nice printers.)

i hardly use mirror lockup, beacause i have to dig through the menu to find it

The Canon rep at a local photography expo tried to sell me this nice $450 printer for $250. He seemed pretty pushy then I fessed up and and told him I get my prints done at Costco. He didn't have much to say after that. lol! Where else can you get a good quality 11x16 for $3. :P I hate buying ink.

I pretty much did just that; I also wanted to show my wife how it could be done with her compact camera and printer. Even she uses the card reader in the printer, though.

Has anyone got the technical nous to tinker with the firmware to change the functionality of the button? Is it possible?
