To me it looks like he was posing with someone else who blinked, etc. and your cropped that person out. Even though that isn't true, it looks that way to me.

It looks more like an accident than being intentional to me (his face expression is nice though, and you might wanna try different cropping out some of the area around him ... )

Agree w/ Jamie that lighting is a bit flat.

I'm kind of with those who think the "accidentalness" is too apparent. If it were an inch or so above his eyes I think it would have a better chance at working for me. The eyes that close to the top is all I see. I think you definitely have a new angle to keep in mind, however.
