I happened to be in Best Buy at lunch making a quick return and figured, what the heck lets take a looksy around. So, they had a 40d sitting there and I figured what the heck, lets just look at it. Wow, very nice camera. Huge screen on back. Large view finder. Everything that everybody knows already. But since I have an xti/400d this is a much nicer camera. I was thinking of getting a 30 d eventually (well when i talk the Mrs. into it) So i have to figure out a good way to sell the xti with a grip and a bunch of batteries to get money towards the body of the 40d!

One should always know better than to look at a new toy that one had an thought of getting in the future.

bphillips,

Heh! Good luck in tough choices! I bought my daughter a 400D a while back for her introduction into the DSLR world. I want her to be happy with it for a while, so I don't offer to let her play with my 30D or my 5D:).

One thing you might consider: If you sell your used 400D you won't get a whole lot of $$ for it. A lot of us, when we buy up to a better class of camera, hold onto our old ones as a backup or for situations when it is easier to grab and point and shoot with the older camera. You could keep the XTi fitted with a lens that would make it kind of a high quality point and shoot camera when you don't want or can't be thinking about what lens and what settings to use with the 40D.

In fact, I suppose that the price you get for a used 400D would be about what you would pay for a high end point and shoot camera, and the 400D's image quality and functionality are so much better!

Just a thought!

If you want to see some pics from a recent day trip to Mount St. Helens, an active volcano in Washington State, with a 5D, click here (external link)
