Apparently the IEEE 1394 driver comes on the Digital Solutions Disc with the 1D and later versions didn't need it. I got the 1D, but with copies of later version discs and the firewire connection doesn't see the camera with this driver. Anyone know where I can get it? :(

Yeah, tried all that. Nothing has worked. The driver is part of the Digital solutions Disc and that's not in their download library.

Which driver DO you have,
I have the WIA driver 453 and the Twain driver 453

I can't recall which it is, but you have to jump through hoops,. install the right one of the above and then THEN you may only be able to communicate with the camera via one of the bundeled programs, and there's three to chose from I and I can't recall which one of the there it is.

Eos Viewer,
FileViewer, or Zoomborswer...

OR it may simply show up under "My Computer" in which case you right click, select properties and go from there..
It was all pretty archaic..

Anyway let me know what driver you do have and if you don;t have one of the above.

I have EOS Viewer and DPP. It's not under My Computer or Hardware Profiles. I know there is a way to get at the camera settings through ZoomBrowser, but I don't have that either. The problem with the Canon downloads is, those are only Updaters. You need the stuff installed first, for those to work.

EOS Viewer does not recognize the camera when the firewire is attached. I've even tried it with the AC adapter connected and auto shut off turned off in the camera. My computer hardware profiles shows the firewire driver as working and the cable looks brand new.

After I installed what I had, I got a popup saying to close the installer, attach the camera and turn it on and the rest of the installation would continue, which it never did. Not sure what's going on at this point. You'd think Canon would have the files off their discs stored somewhere for download. Who doesn't lose discs now and then?

What I need is some kind soul to copy the files, zip them up and upload them somewhere. ;)

I do have the WIA driver 453 installed.

What OS are you trying to use it with? I can't get the connection to work right with Vista....I have to use my laptop with XP to communicate with the cameras.

I use Windows XP Pro. I think I'm getting close though. I better be, or I'll be drooling into my keyboard before too much longer.

Thanks Ray, but I got it last night after I posted that last. I found a Zoombrowser to download and installed it. I guess the registry stuff was already in there from the 30D installed stuff last year. At any rate, I went to Hardware Manager and there was the Canon entry. I needed to enable the driver, update it and everything went fine from there. :)

At least with XP Pro you had a fighting chance of getting it to work.

Yeah, finally, but it didn't look that way earlier. I spent about 12 hours on just that, and forgot to eat yesterday. Not that it hurt me any. ;)
