Thank you fellow POTN member and now friend Dwight McCann who let me try his EF 300mm f/2.8L at a local paintball tournament. I was very impressed with this amazing lens and Dwight kept insisting that I needed buy one. I spend a lot of time trying to justify an almost $4000 lens but Dwight telling not to worry about it and just buy the damn lens!
Well here is a shot from one of the first events with this monster which is now my favorite lens

You must have some brass balls to take a piece of equipment like that onto, or even NEAR a paintball field!

Hi Andrew,
This was taken during the finals at the PSP River City Open in Omaha Nebraska. One of the requirements for Spyder Cup is that the players must shoot a Spyder Gun. The Drama player in this picture is using a Dynasty Shocker.

The Tournament in Mexico is a memorial tournament for a friend of mine. His parents invite me every year and provide with transportation to the field. I am sure they would not mind other photographers at the event…
To give you a flavor of this fun event here is animated gif from last year’s event

Awesome picture Gary:) Are you going to San Diego? I look forward to seeing/hopefully meeting you on the sidelines, it will be my first time photographing at a national tournament, I can't wait!

Just a quick question, do you miss any shots because you are using the 300? I find that even with my 80-200 2.8 I have missed some shots by cutting off a limb etc. Or do you carry another camera with a 24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8?

Thanks Gary, once again, this picture is great!

I always shoot with two bodies…again thanks to Dwight’s suggestion I upgraded my second body from a Mark IIN to a Mark III. It is so much easier to use two identical cameras. On body #1 I almost always use an EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM
On body 2 run a wide variety of lenses (EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye)depending on the conditions and what I am trying to do but lately the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM has become my favorite.

One of the many problems of carrying this much weight is that it tends to destroy my POTN camera straps but my neck and back seem to be holding up..

BTW I have found the UPStrap to work really well

See you in SD :)

Ah I see, I remember Terry from Blacklist doing that this season at HB and he was complaining about his back hurting from having just a 28-70 and 70-200, I can't imagine having just the 300 prime, and then having another...wow!
See you then:)

My son went pb'ing last weekend and said it was the coolest thing ever. I still can't imagine taking a $4,000 lens into the arena. The players must really respect you.

The players show a lot of respect for all photographers, but that doesn't protect us from our gear getting shot!:)
