40D battery door solution

I've got an idea for 20D/30D owners who also bought the 40D and complaining the 40D's battery door hinge is made of plastic. Swap doors with your 20D/30D when you're bringing the 40D out to play . Just a thought....

The 40d has a rubber sealant for water proofing, but you should have a battery grip anyways

Or people could trade me straight up. I'll ship them a 20D with a genuine metal hinge in exchange for their 40D with the crappy plastic hinge. They get the excellent build quality of an all metal hinge, and I get a 40D.

Seems perfectly fair to me!

I think there is a difference as well as to how they go in and out.
The 40D has a semi-positive retention system whereby you PULL the door off at a 45 degree angle. The attach points are designed that way and the posts do not retract.

On the 30D, the post retracts using a small "lever". You have to retract the post to remove the door (or that's the way I seem to remember it). I think you might get away with using a 30D door on the 40D but I am not sure if the reverse is true.

I find it kind of silly that people are complaining about this door. Never heard a single issue with the dang door. So it has a plastic hinge???? Does it work? I mean..yes...complain about all the plastic they are putting in lenses....but the door hinge?

I have better use of my time...

Half the world is make of plastic these days and it's a fact of life. Plastics manufacturing is quite good and I don't think there is reason to get caught up in the fact that the hinge was changed to plastic.

There are tons of 40D's out there and I can guarantee that if it was a problem someone would be posting (yes I know it's a new camera) about broken doors and cracked plastic... but they're not and I haven't heard a word about it.

If we're going to complain about the hinge then why not complain about the rubber doors that cover the ports. When I first saw that I thought those flaps would come right off or tear and get lost. That has not happened either.

Take a look around your car. Remember when everything was metal (showing my age)? Now look at the construction of your car. It's all molded plastic and plastic made to look like metal and wood.

Plastics are and will be here for the long run and we need to get used to it. Look at the product on the whole and not one individual plastic component.
