Question to Female Photographers

Hi all

Have been browsing this forum for a couple of years now and decided like many its time to add my pennies worth and hope to gain some well needed advice.

My cousin is begining to start up a business in wedding photography and it’s a bit of a shock to her on what’s required to break in to this field. I can help answer or try to answer most of her questions.

But there is just one that will properly need a woman to answer.

The scenario is one some of you, maybe all have been there before.

During the reception the Groom and a few of his mates have consumed a little too much alcohol and request a few shots of them all together somewhere. For example, the grounds of the venue away from the rest of the party. It all goes fine until someone or all decide to expose their genitalia.

For me in the past I’ve taken the shot, made a joke that I really need a bigger lens to see anything and walk off laughing with them.

But she is concerned that it may get out of hand leading to a humiliating experience and not wanting to upset the bride and her family makes no complaint about it.

Have any Female photographers been in this scenario and if so how have you dealt with it?

Thanks for any advice given.
Darren

Not a woman, but I'd probably not waste any of my life worrying about something as unlikely as this actually happening.

I would tell her to think of another career now to be honest.

Genitalia is such a funny word...

It doesn't just happen to women photographers, though...it may have happened to me once.

In the scenario above, the woman photographer should not have gone off along with a bunch of drunk guys. Problem solved. It's unlikely that it would have happened in the middle of the dance floor.

OR

Take the shot, use the liquefy tool to shrink everything to very small proportions, and make sure it has a prominent spot in the proof set!

be wise, don't put yourself into situations where things can get out of hand. for example, don't go wandering off with a bunch of drunk guys, married or otherwise. if they want a shot all together, just pick a nice backdrop, but not too far away from where everything else is happening. But, tell your cousin the likelihood of this happening is probably very small.

Well I have done somewhere close to 40 weddings now and havent had that happen, so I really wouldnt hang up on that possibility.

If it happened, I would probably take the shot if I am not taken by too mych surprise, say something like "maybe we should get the girls out here" or if I was taken too much of guard I would just let the moment pass and maybe say something like "Let me pretend I didnt see that"

Then wrap up the shot and go back to the crowd

Is it? I surpose? Probably the old English in me ;)

Yes, I agree. Like song4themoon said, it's not worth getting hung up about. Just diddn't want to seem I wasn't taking it seriously.

Cheers
Darren

I guess this might be something to worry about, but I prefer to worry about whether the entire bridal party is going to want shots of them skinny dipping in the fountain out in front of the reception hall and then want me to get in there with them. I am afraid that I don't know how to swim very well...

I would have the ones that are smart enough NOT to expose themselves point at the one or few that did, with expressions of laughter.

But then again I'm a guy and it'd be funny to me.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

That would be awesome! I bought a Mark II for a reason... it wasn't the bridal party nekkid but it could be!

seriously? This is the second post about this subject this morning. Other one HERE.

I have shot some crazy weddings with some really drunk flirty guys...but I have never been 'flashed' or even had it mentioned to me.

I'd just say "I have a friend in PeeAy that shoots porn for a living, I'll send him your pic to see if you measure up!"

I agree with Jamie, although that has never happened to me.

Never even heard of this happening.

And, as others have said, don't go off with a bunch of drunk guys. Just because you are at work doesn't mean you aren't being foolish (generally speaking, not meaning you specifically ;)). You're job isn't to endanger yourself.

I seconded for a long time. Believe me there are more things going on than you even know, and its not about the OP. At one wedding, the bride and groom spoke spanish, assuming the photographer only spoke english. They were right, but his wife spoke fluently. He went the whole wedding hearing what was said, about him, from his wife. At the end, he just said good bye to the bride, groom and party. Enjoyed his time except for the foul things that they said about him. You should have seen their faces. Sheer shock.

To do weddings you have to just do your job and you have to have tough skin. I don't think the OP is a problem.

But I do think Jamie's one to something. ;)
