EF 70-200 f/2.8L + EF 2X II for air shows?

Would a 70-200 be enough for shooting blue angels / thunderbirds at an airshow or would adding a EF 2X II be better?

a 1.4 would be plenty
last airshow i went to I used my 70-200 and 1.4 tc


Canon 5D2 20D & 300D 50mm f1.8 mk 2, 24-105 f4 IS L
Tokina 12-24 f4
ATX PRO, 400mm f5.6 ATX apo
Sigma 28-70mm f2.8
EX DG, 120-300mm f2.8 EX DG
Tamron SP pro TC 1.4 and KENKO 2x teleplus pro 300DG and lots of m42 lenses

You loose one stop right? The 1.4x does seem to have better feedback vs the 2.0x.

Yep and virtually no IQ loss.
Having said that with the 2.8 and 2x your cam will autofocus at f5.6 but will be slower.
