Hi, I have a new 40D and need to shoot volleyball in a school gym and also baseball outside. This is my first digital SLR, I have never shot anything in RAW before, but I do have a Corel to convert it. Any suggestions?

Most focal lengths will do because you can be mobile in a high school gym. Go with a shutter speed of 1/320 or better and match the ISO to achieve this. I use aperature priority, or take a meter reading and then switch to manual with that setting and shoot with center focus. Remember to shoot a lot because the keeper rate in darker gym's is low.
