Howdy All,

I have been having an issue with the focus on my new S5 IS and I am wondering if I am doing something wrong? When I use the zoom and it stops, then zooms more for a closer shot, I get the worse camera shake ever. Is this normal? Do I need a tripod? Am I doing something wrong?

I seem to have more out of focus shots that in focus?

Thanks in advance.

I hope you have Digital Zoom turned OFF. It never should have been included on any camera.

Please clarify - you zoom, then you stop zooming, or you zoom, the camera freezes for a moment in the process and then resumes zoom?

No, the digital zoom is set to Standard. I haven't changed any of the settings.

Clarification: You know when you zoom out, the lens reaches the max point and then you can zoom a little more (the blue zone)... this is where I am having the camera shake or out of focus problem.

How was that? :)

If you don't go into the blue zone, it doesn't happen?

Try not to go into the blue zone and if you back it up just a smidge you should not have the problem - I have had the same issue- I did change the setting so that the Digital zoom is turned off then you can't overzoom into it - I seem to have more problem with this one than I had with my 10x zoom S1 is -

Correct.

So, what's the blue zone for then?

It's Digital Zoom (p. 40 of the Advanced User Guide).

No, the digital zoom is set to Standard.

Exactly. Hence it's ON.

Yep. Or else use a much faster shutter speed. But digital zoom's a snare and delusion anyhow. It's simply the camera cropping your image for you.
