Shutter speed and shutter failure

Does anyone know or think that shutter speeds used affect the shutter life expectancy ?

I have used a 300D,20D and 350D all are over 50000 shots with no shutter problems yet (i know this is asking for trouble). Virtually all my shots are taken at 1/200th (I'm a macroshooter). Have I been lucky or does this relatively slow shutter speed prolong shutter life ?

Hey LordV, I think the constant "macro" shutter speed you're using definitely has a positive effect on your shutter life. I suspect the same could be said of portrait shooter's camera who generally stay somewhere between 1/125 and 1/250.

Would your car last longer if you only drove it at one speed? Some say maybe, some say no - variety is better.

Doesn't matter IMO: The shutter blades move at a constant speed, regardless of shutterspeed.

Rene is right. Shutter speed is not the speed of the blades, but how long it stays open in between.

I do think burst speed might have an effect though, but even then, maybe not. Shutter open and close is an individual event.
