Do not shoot with all the AF points active. Murphy's Law says it will find the bleachers in the background instead of the people.

I don't, I use center point only (as you can see) I'm thinking the AF is messed up maybe?

Is it possible that since the center point isn't entirely on the girl, it may have acquired focus on the bleachers behind her?

Good point, the AF is wider than just the spot, and we can see that the bleachers are pretty sharp. AF looks for contrast, and there is more contrast with the bleachers than with the girl.

What's the fix for this dilemna?

Whenever shooting portraits/group shots, always shoot more than one photo. ;)

But why is almost everything else in this photo is/are focused better? Like the girls to the right in background?

I'll definitely vouch for that!

Probably because they are closer to the bleachers, where the camera focused.

I shot like 3 of this shot as well as many others too? Here is a recent shot which clearly shows the girl on the right in background in focus?

I think that this specific example is indicative of improper placement of the focusing point more than a focusing issue with the camera. It would probably be helpful for you to post another example.

What AF mode were you using for the last example?

I do get some good ones, usually 1 out of 5-7?

That's interesting that the one with the least amount of contrast in the AF point is the sharpest.
