Hi All,

Without having to scan through all these pages, does anybody know if 1.1.1 is available? I have had my Mk iii for about a month and put it into action this week shooting badminton. Half way through the first day, i've started getting err 99 messages, and of course the locked mirror.....frustrating!!!

Love the camera, perfect for indoor fast sports.....just need it to work properly...

Thanks

Mark

It's not yet, Mark. I know it's hard to weed through here but no firmware release so far. Sorry to hear about your camera issues.

It is available as a beta version at all/some(?) Canon service centres. I just got mine updated today here in Oslo.

Pop up flash requires voice recognition. If your camera was not ordered with it originally you,ll have to send it back to canon for the upgrade.

I am starting to believe the software update will not fix the Mark III's hardware problems. I just wish Canon would say SOMETHING!! ANYTHING!! I guess this way they might not have to take back the 30,000 or so Mark III's that came out first. I am very disappointed.

I'll take a trade in for a 1Ds MK III. :)

Has everyone downloaded 1.1.0 for backup in case 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 doesn't work out? I guess I'm giving a heads up when and if it's released.

Yep, I did that, but someone was saying u may not be able to go backwards (something about the updater ?). Does'nt hurt to download anyway.

Just curious if you'd tried birds with yours. I'm pretty firmly believing that the type of photography is a factor in how well the AF works (i.e. the size of the targets etc.) . I'm also pretty firmly believing there is a wide range of how prominant the problem is which to me indicates some type of hardware tolerance or assembly tolerance issue that the design did not take into account.

KAC

I have been practicing on birds in flight with AFPS ("ring of fire") as well as CSO (center sensor only). My results so far indicate that AFPS works very well as long as the background is sky, a solid color or a distant background. CSO works better if your background is close to the subject. This distance is hard to define unless you focus on the flight area on the ground and read the focal distance on the lens and then focus on the background and read the distance on the lens. Obviously this is not always possible to calculate unless the birds are coming down the same flight path.
AFPS is the best way to start with C.Fn 2 set on slow to medium. There are 17 C.Fn III settings - lots of room for error!
If the new version of BreezeBrowser indicates C.Fn settings in the EXIF data we should be "ready to rumble".

I know this question has probably come up before. But here goes.

I use my Mark III almost exclusively using only the center focus point while using one shot.

I have been getting mixed results using this method.

Is this also a problem with the Mark III, in addition to the documented problems while using AI Servo ?

Or are the focus issues strictly relating to using AI Servo?

That is the primary issue I've been having from the beginning. Send me a PM if you want more info as everyone here is sick of hearing it. My AI-servo has actually worked pretty well when I've tested it.
