I know this question has probably come up before. But here goes.

I use my Mark III almost exclusively using only the center focus point while using one shot.

I have been getting mixed results using this method.

Is this also a problem with the Mark III, in addition to the documented problems while using AI Servo ?

Or are the focus issues strictly relating to using AI Servo?

As far as I understand the problems are almost exclusively AF problems in Al servo

If you using large apertures at close distances then you will have focus problems with the focus recompose method - you'll probably see some back focus issues. It is a bad technique - use the closest focus point possible

Unfortunately they are not and that has been addressed multiple times in this thread and it's predecessor.

My bad then and I'm sorry to here about your issues.

I have followed this thread and some of the previous thread and most issues I've read seem to be tracking problems in Al servo, in particular BIF. Obviously I've missed some though.

Not sure if this is allowed here per the topic, but did it have a focus problem? or was it sent in for something else.

I'm with Kenny - One Shot is my biggest gripe.

I have it down to failing within two frames, here's the latest (focus on the eye):

It's clearly front-focused by some margin (on God knows what though - there's nothing in the fore-ground which it could have accidently locked on).

With the problems in one shot are these still unfixable by Canon?

Well unfixed at this point, hopefully not unfixable.

do you think the 50 1.2 is a good lens to judge the M3 by? It's notorious for front or back focusing...btw. this and your 24-70 that front (or back, I can't remember which) focuses, you might want to test the M3 with something you know focuses properly to see where it's really at.

1) The 50/1.2 was shot wide-open. There are no reported focusing problems with this lens when shot as such.
2) I have found the same focus problem with every lens I have tested: 24/1.4, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 IS, 85/1.2 II, and now the 50/1.2 - I don't think it is lens related.
