I admire your optimism, but as usual we in the UK will just get royally stuffed. :(

I don't believe for one minute Canon would only do a US recall, the European market must be just as important to them.

Agreed

The only reason all this has come about is that US Canon details on the fix, was leaked before an official statement, all Canon Franchises will sort it, it would not be to their interests not to, as everyone will just be sending in their camera's in under warranty until it was fixed.

I did read parts of this. Bottom line, are we still awaiting instructions from Canon? Any firm date as to when we will find out?

And for those who think it ironic or "funny" that people who have not noticed problems, have their cameras recalled, laugh at me. In the beginning I noticed no problems with my camera, but as I used it more and more under different circumstances, from weddings to portraits to sports, it became apparent to me mine needs fixing too.

I Personally think that all Camera's need the modification, and the only ones that may not are new ones that have come off the production with the latest parts fitted, assuming they have now changed their production line, and they should know what ones are by the S/N
Anyone who thinks they have not had problems, but their body is not in the range of S/N of bodies that have new kit fitted would be mad not to send in their bodies for the modifications.
my own Views ofc

The word from Chuck was "approx two weeks" (to paraphrase,) for the info on how to find if your camera may be effected.
We have no other more recent info.
some seem to think a test will be involved, some assume it will be a mere matter of serial numbers/date codes.
I suspect the latter.

Its gonna be even more funny when they say nothing is wrong with cameras that people say has a problem.

I'll take bets that will not happen. It is one thing to have the problem and not notice due top shooting style, it is another for people to test their cameras multiple times and have the exact same problem, that their new M3 doesn't auto focus as well as their IIN. Not likely at all!

Not so. I think you missed the finer point here, and that is ONLY those who made "snide" comments like, "Mine is perfect, are you not sure your hands are not steady, or your custom functions are set wrong, or the... well, we don't have a problem so it is just probably YOU not the camera that should be blamed."

I can't think of anyone making negative remarks towards anyone that didn't see a problem unless that person made those kinds of comments to the folks having the issue. So no, I don't think for a minute anyone would laugh at you if the problem is actually there. Many people will be in that position due to them not shooting those kinds of pics that produce the issue.

I suspect the latter.

My suspects are with yours, after all you can't really trust users to do the test properly. :)

my own Views of

I certainly couldn't/wouldn't try to argue with that logic. I agree. I've thought since the moment the issue came up, if it is a hardware problem, I will send mine in no matter what. Down the road, be assured anyone knowing the camera's history will either:

1. Want a camera produced AFTER the fix is completed, or;

2. Want a camera where someone states it was sent in, new part added, camera fixed 100%

3. They will be very wary of anyone saying they didn't have the problem so it wasn't sent in.

4. This came, imho, now has a scarlet letter on it and resell values will reflect this issue for a long time in the future.

Mark, just for reference, I thought the initial problems I was having were just due to me, so much so that I kept the camera past the return period before realizing it wasn't me, but a real problem with the camera.

that was also my original thinking, after this weekends shooting in 31-40'C temps i dont know if its me or the camera, and now i am paranoid, so bring on the fix already so i can determine if its me who sucks or the body

I can understand why now people reported a problem more in the very hot weather, the parts in question were probably tightening up, expanding, etc.
