I certainly couldn't/wouldn't try to argue with that logic. I agree. I've thought since the moment the issue came up, if it is a hardware problem, I will send mine in no matter what. Down the road, be assured anyone knowing the camera's history will either:

1. Want a camera produced AFTER the fix is completed, or;

2. Want a camera where someone states it was sent in, new part added, camera fixed 100%

3. They will be very wary of anyone saying they didn't have the problem so it wasn't sent in.

4. This came, imho, now has a scarlet letter on it and resell values will reflect this issue for a long time in the future.

I could care less. Thinking of a camera as anything close to an "investment" or to worry about "resale value" just does not work. I wouldn't sell mine anyway...I'd rather give it away to a family member, etc...

Or give it to an old retired friend living in the desert?

Lol, I was talking about how the informed buyers might feel, not if you cared or not. A camera as an investment? I guess if you keept it pristine for a hundred years or so, but even then I doubt if it would be better than the S&P for you. :)

You said, "Thinking of a camera as anything close to an "investment" or to worry about "resale value" just does not work." Well, if you have money to throw away, cool, but looking at resell value of something like a camera is something that "works" for me, especially if I can take actions that possibly will increase the resell value down the road.

When they announce the cameras in need of a fix, are you even going to check yours? I'd love to be a fly on the wall looking if your perfectly working M3 shows up on the list or not. ;) Hehehe, now that would be interesting.

Got my 1.1.1 installed at Bangkok Canon service today. It's too dark out so I haven't try the new firmware yet.

I was just wondering, how much less it is that you could care? A lot less or just a bit?

Rember the problem with the BG-E2 that poped up shortly after it's introduction? How some were having problems with it (it would just quit) and some (like me) were not? How Canon issued which ones could be affected by serial number? I doubt it. At any rate I have never seen a 20D w/BG advertised for sale that stated the BG had been fixed by Canon. BTW, I sent mine in anyway.

Pretty much none at all when considering a camera as an investment for resell value. I buy my cameras to make me money through my photographic skills. Once they have paid themselves off, and I have written them off on the taxes then they're basically "free" and their value as resell means nothing to me.

But, we have drifted WAAAAY off the topic here. ;)

It will sure be interesting to see how this MKIII fix happens. I like that Canon has taken their time to fully research this and develop a plan for repair. Let's just hope the repair process is smooth and efficient.

This is on topic with regard to is the fix worth it if you're happy with the camera's perfomance as it is. While you may choose to run your business as you wish, even a fully depreciated camera body has salvage value to the business. That value would be higher if a known fault was repaired and the repair documented. And I would think most businesses would sell their no longer required equipment when they upgrade to something new. YMOV. ;)

Sir Defordphoto, I'm sure it was not with intent, but in your last posting on this thread, you credit me with something I did not wright.

He mistakenly credited you with something joegolf wrote. Please note the mistake is noted and the record stands corrected.

I called Canon Canada last week. They acknowedged the problem with the mark III focusing, and asked me to call Calgary service centre to arrange for my camera to be fixed.

I then called Calgary and they agreed to take my camera and fix the said focus problem. They however told me they haven't fixed one yet, so mine would be their first.

I am going to wait to send mine in as I don't want to be a guinea pig again. I will wait till all the bugs have been worked out.

It is interesting to note that the girl who I was talking to said they will take my camera and give me an "estimate on the repairs".

I replied, shouldn't all Mark III's sold still be under the one year warranty ?

Then she tried to change her stand and say they need my invoice to work on it.

Let us all hope it will fix the problem.
