I was just wondering, how much less it is that you could care? A lot less or just a bit?

LOL, that's one of my favorite cliché miswordings. Another of my favorites is "for all intensive purposes."

Anyhooo, back to your regularly scheduled program.

The 1D III is in my Amazon shopping cart waiting for some positive feedback on this fix. (Disclaimer: 5D mkII reserves the right to usurp said camera's place in Dekka's cart.)

What I think I'm going to find a bit funny is the recall on those cameras that their owners have said are perfect. :)

KAC

I have had zero problems with my MIII, and I do shoot a lot of sports... but I will definitely send it in if there is a recall or any such hint that a problem has been found. The reason is simple... just because it is exhibiting correct behavior now doesn't mean it will forever. It could stop working tomorrow. I've never said that I thought other people didn't have a problem though. The fact that some worked and some didn't... and some that initially worked later stopped working... is why I was convinced it was a hardware defect. So count me in for sending it in, and whether people think its funny or not doesn't really bother me.

For us Canucks, I called Canon in Mississauga today and they are very well aware of a recall for Canon MKIII, they have no other information at this point but will post it on the Canon.ca when available. They have no information with regard to serial numbers and expect this to take a couple of weeks.

I was to return my MKIII today for a refund however my camera store would like to extend my return for a refund for another 2 weeks to see what happens with Canon, until Nov 5. If my camera is affected they will replace the unit.

If Canon has no information by Nov 5 I get a full refund.

Pretty good deal, Thanks Henry's!

I agree with you Mike. I haven't seen any issues with mine but, I'm going to send it in anyway.

It is interesting to note that the girl who I was talking to said they will take my camera and give me an "estimate on the repairs".

I replied, shouldn't all Mark III's sold still be under the one year warranty ?

Then she tried to change her stand and say they need my invoice to work on it.

Let us all hope it will fix the problem.[/SIZE]

If it works the same as in Denmark the invoice is just sent to Canon instead of you. Here it is no Canon that do the service. So they always make an invoice. It is just a question if the customer pays it or it is sent to Canon for warrenty repairs.

This is on topic with regard to is the fix worth it if you're happy with the camera's performance as it is. While you may choose to run your business as you wish, even a fully depreciated camera body has salvage value to the business. That value would be higher if a known fault was repaired and the repair documented. And I would think most businesses would sell their no longer required equipment when they upgrade to something new. YMOV. ;)

Obviously money has no meaning for him. Must be nice. As for me, when I sell, I like to get the most I can, and when I buy, I like to pay the fewest bucks I can, but I CARE MORE, or less, lol.

Sorry defordphoto Sorry but your original post appeared almost like an attack on me for saying that resell value might be effected by this. If you don't really care, that's cool but I think most people do and I'd suspect that when you sell yours you'd prefer getting more, not less, which is human nature. If you give it away, that's cool too, but that would mean you are extremely generous for giving away a $2K or almost $3K camera (depending on time frame) as a gift.

Either way defordphoto , my best to you for being a good sport bud. I hope yours isn't in the recall, and if it, it gets fixed with no hitches. Time should prove out that the M3 is an awesome camera. I, like many I think, are extremely disappointed that this tremendous groundbreaking camera has been besmirched by this issue. As a kind of purists in some things, I'd actually like to see a IIIN come out soon with a few improvements and I'd jump on it to be done with this cloud. I know, not logical, but that is the way I feel.

Some clouds are worth it though. I bought my Lexus LS430 when it had 3K miles on it and only two months of use; all because the original owner had broken a window and had slight over-spray of paint on it. Both issues were professionally fixed, but to him the car was "clouded" and he wanted "pristine." Well, pristine cost him about $20K and saved me $20K on a like NEW car with all the bells and whistles. A bargain which I could care less about clouds unless they contain rain! lol Peace.

He mistakenly credited you with something joegolf wrote. Please note the mistake is noted and the record stands corrected.

Thx Tom. :)

Joe,

There were no attacks. Just stating a fact that as a small business, keeping my cameras serves me well, and when "gifting" them to friends or family, there is yet another tax write-off, so I just go about writing off the end life of my cameras in a different way than some. Cars are also a tax write-off for me, so they are in the same "investment" category that cameras are. Whether a Lexus, Audi, or Acura.

As for my MKIII, I am pretty sure it's part of the "recall" and that's okay too. My MKIII has served me quite well and rarely without fault. Most faults being my own.

I've never heard that, but it must be a mutation of "For all INTENTS and purposes." which seems legitimate to me depending on the situation.

Over the weekend, not only did I get a survey in my email to answer, I also got a phone call from Canon, saying that they knew there was a problem, that problem was with the sub-mirror assembly, and as soon as they figured out how to get cameras in to get repaired, they would contact me...the person that left the message also acknowledged that I had called before...
