So what happend to the shutter assembly? Did it just clunk out on ya?

They never really said. I figured I really wouldn't understand what the problem was if they did explain it, and I was just glad to have it working again.

The Irvine service facility is only a couple hours drive from here, so I dropped it off in person. Maybe they took pity on me, but the turnaround time was only a couple days.

I wouldn't be quite so pessimistic. Canon replaced the entire shutter assembly in my 1DsMKIII after only 2300 shutter actuations, and it's been perfect. These guys seem to know what they're doing.

When did you get the 1Ds MKIII? I am jealous!:p

Good to know Tom. At least it gives me some comfort that whatever they do to my MK III, it'll be in good hands. :)

Does anyone know what type of diagnostics Canon uses to make sure the camera is repaired? If the sub mirror is replaced/adjusted, what type of testing do they use to make sure it's functioning properly? Thanks in advance.

quick question...I've been away for several days...has the "how to know if your M3 has a problem" info been released by canon yet?

the question we have to ask ourselves now is: will this "fix" be a shortterm thing or a be all and end all?

as my camera hit 10k actuations, i noticed that the 300mm f2.8 started getting even more erratic on a bright day (cloudless, but about 50-60F). now the creep shows up even more, and is now starting to infringe on some otherwise good shots. who knows if canon's fix will also only last a short time before the parts begin to shift due to the vibrations of 10fps.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Well...here we go again. My dealer just got 5 new MKIII's in stock. One is set aside for yours truly. Do I jump now? Or should I wait some more. I am sure he has no idea if these have the proper "Sub Mirror Assembly Fix" installed....gulp....

What would you guys & gals do? I need to tell him tomorrow....

GBRandy - I'd wait if I were you, at least until Canon makes an official and complete statement on exactly what is going on...

I think they're fixed at this point and have been for a month or so. They wouldn't be putting them on the shelves if they still had issues given the cost to repair. Soooo, I'd buy if you're going to anyway, with pretty high confidence it'll be okay. (And you still would have return for a bit to make sure, just in case ;-)a

If they had been fixed for a month there would not be a need for a recall.
