There may be new units on shelves but unless you want to spend time testing and running around I would wait until something more definitive comes out.

As I write this I am putting my MKIII back into the box and back it goes this weekend for a full refund. My A1 Servo tests shows a suspected AF focus issue.

Until I know how this issue can be identified once and for all, I will not get another MKIII. My serial is 535XXX not that this matters according to some.

The ones coming into Canada were supposed to be individually tested but I doubt this very much. Now I have no body what a bummer to put it lightly.

Honestly I am fed up with the whole thing.

Could you look in the battery compartment with a flashlight and give us to date?

He's lying.

I'm first. My bribe is bigger than your bribe.

Well, yeah but, they already fixed mine. I just didn't want to disappoint anyone.

What does the dealer say regarding the Hardware fix? does he know, maybe get a S/N and phone up canon see what they say?
Don't think I would get one unless I knew it had the new hardware update.

I guess this is the most prudent...if they answer is "I don't know" then I wait some more....if they say it is corrected then I guess I am in....

Thanks all...I'll report back with what they have to say.

Yes. Been there, done that....in spades. And do not want a repeat. If I get a thumbs up from Canon and this thing turns up bad I am going back home to my mother ship (see right hand side of my sig) This whole topic is getting old....

hmm for UK people Canon should post sometime this week, and fixes to start taking place 1 to 2 weeks time.
Seems a few (2 or so) have been done in New Zealand and are out in the field being tested, with no reports of problems so far, but none been done in UK yet.

OH I did ask the ? about what bodies and so on, are the ones that need fixing, no comment was made, I ask about recall off shelves, if Production has been changed or when it was, no comment was made, I said so it looks like it is all cameras bodies will need doing, the round about answer was, if you send it in to be upgraded it will be upgraded,,, So My thoughts are every body needs it and will get done.

OK...dealer calls and says they talked to Canon. Canon states that any cameras shipped after October 1st included the new Sub Mirror Assembly fix......

You guys buying that one?

I think I might still wait and see if Canon announces some way to determine if a particular camera (serial number or date/place code) is potentially affected...

For those of us (myself included) that are/were waiting for Canon to send E-mail confirming the phone calls we made re: shipping for sub mirror assembly,..

... as I now understand it, Canon will only be contacting us once the the following occur:
1. They are ready to begin to service the cameras.
2. They are ready to call in your "queue". (for lack of a better word)

ie: we won't all get (calls/e-mails whatever) at once, they will contact us in a fashion that will allow them to keep up with the work.

How we are contacted has not been decided, it could very well be an E-mail, it could be phone or website announcement etc..

Hopefully the process will begin soon! :)

For now, have some Halloween candy and relax :)

That all sounds about right. When I specifically asked the Canon rep that I spoke to and set up a support incident with a week ago whether I would be contacted via email or phone, he said "Almost definitely by phone."

FWIW...
