So are production cameras after October 1st complete with the new Sub Mirror Assembly?

That would require an internal acknowledgment from canon in mid September in order to implement changes into production by October 1st.

Does that sound reasonable? I would hate to buy a "new" camera only to find out needs to go in for repair! Comments?

Not only that, it typically takes 4 weeks for product to ship from Japan/Asia via boat. Add a couple of days to hit distribution centers, then from there they need to be shipped to stores. I would venture to say to wait as we are <4 weeks the unconfirmed "all clear" date. The math just does not add up.

You could however, bank on the fact that news might become available during your return period and you could potentially be sitting on a good one, if they airfreighted them in to replenish the channel at a cost over slow boat.

Sounds good to me, your dealer has acknowledged your MKIII will have the sub-mirror fix. Only you can make the decision to buy it;)

Cheers

well done CW! (if they know the answers, it's ridiculous that they aren't handing them out to us)

:) That's hilarious, it's virtually everything, no wonder they are worried about scheduling them in. This may lend support to those who postulated that all cameras were affected.

When I told the rep that I was close to the Jamesburg facility, he said I could just bring it in, but they would probably have to keep it for a long time, which he then quickly corrected to a few weeks. So, I guess if I were willing to do without the camera for that period of time, there is no "waiting line" necessary; they will just do the repair as soon as they are ready to if it's there.

Maybe once I get the 1DsMKIII, if they haven't called for it by then, I'll do just that.

That's over 45k units, you guys think that is how many they have to fix?

Yes. But many owners may not receive the happy news, nor will they suspect their camera isn't working properly in the first place...
