It's a simple process... I time synch all my cameras with my PC, and then in Bridge I arrange them by date shot, it sorts them automatically for me, and then I batch rename them with a new sequence number once I've done my first cull. This way, when the image gets printed, and the file names on the back stay sequential. I've been asked once, what happened to file numbers such and such, when there was a sizable gap in between them.

Why put them in a separate folder in the first place? I don't understand that. I find it easier just to dump everything from a shoot into the same folder then rename all at once. No scripting or batching or complex software wizardry needed...

They do get renamed all at once. Separate folders as sometimes the filenames are the same on each camera. We dont reset to zero each time.. guess we could if we wanted.. its no extra work really though. Regardless of where you put them, you just alter the pathname in the batch file.

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.

Oh yeah I guess they could be if both/all your bodies are non 1 series. The 1D bodies put an individualized prefix...and no 2 cameras are alike. It's almost like an identifier. I don't have two 1 series, but that means I'd never have identical filenames from my 10D (starts with CRW) and 1D II (starts with KO9X).

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Yea, the D series all writes the same IMG_XXXX.CR2 name style. Thus, the reason for the thread. :P :D (yea, I know... I didn't say that up front)
