Commercial, Weddings soon.
AWB, Standard w/ 5 sharpness, +1 saturation. RAW
Absolutely love it. Leaps and bounds beyond the 30D IMO - especially for low light and high ISO's.

I shoot weddings, portraits, and sports with it, and It's just wonderful. I shoot in manual using sRAW, default settings, AWB, and spot metering. It blows the doors off my 20D.

Hey,

I am using the 40d in combo with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8, Canon 85mm f1.8 and Sigma 70-200 f2.8. Using anything but the standard colour parameters is a handful, and because of this i dont believe that amonline has it right when he says +1 to saturation. Whenever i do this, i get really colour washed images that dont look great.

Anyways, its a great camera for most situations (except landscape) and is good in low light.

Also the white balance with this camera is VERY touchy and complains just about every time you want to set it to custom white balance.

Hey Liza, if you don't mind me asking, why do you shoot in sRaw?

The very slightly added saturation is simply for color pop in my commercial work. It works well for my clients.

While my complete system is extremely color accurate anyway, prints are absolutely stunning and workflow/processing time is cut down (very) slightly.

What can I say? It personal preference and works for me. :)

For portrait work and (future) weddings, my workflow goes mainly through LR/PS/CS anyway, so the saturation setting doesn't matter. At that point, it really depends on the style my client is wanting. Some styles call for "pop", some don't. I mainly use the saturation "pop" for commercial work through DPP & PS/CS. ;)

I'm also curious why you say the 40D's not great for landscape? ???

I have heard all of the clamour about the 40D so I decided to rent one for next weekends weddings. I spend most of my time with my 20D's because I know them well and confident with them. I look forward to practicing and working with the 40D.

I only have 1GB cards and funds don't permit the purchase of larger cards at this point. The regular raw files only give me 70 shots per card. When I replace my CF cards, I'll probably use regular raw.

Liza, I have 3 2Gb cards that I have not opened if you are looking for a deal. They are SanDisk Extreme II's. I actually have an email to B&H about exchanging them for larger cards, but I'm over the 14 day return policy. If B&H won't exchange them, I'll sell them to someone that can use them for $10 cheaper than B&H and ship them free. ($30 ea) Just FWIW if you were looking for something around 2Gb.

Do you shoot in RAW? If you do those picture styles don't carry over when you convert the RAW.

Thanks for the offer, but I can't until the orders I have are fulfilled and paid. I plan to order 4GB cards from NewEgg.

What are you talking about? I set my settings manually and they match my settings at DPP and I send what I want to PS/CS for further processing. Yes, I know that LR does not utilize Canon's info correctly. I said that.

For portrait work and (future) weddings, my workflow goes mainly through LR/PS/CS anyway, so the saturation setting doesn't matter.

;)

However, anything through DPP does use the style I set up. ;)

I am so glad to hear what everyone has to say about the 40D... My 40D just came in Friday. I ordered the 24-70L 2.8 lens to go with it. I can't wait to do a wedding with it... I've been out all day tring to find something good to shoot.. all I found was a butterfly...

OWn one now for a couple of weeks after upgrading from a Pentax K110! Really.

Love it, but still need to read the manual to get the full potential of this awesome equipment. Pictures will follow if they have reached the standard I want.

I will shoot you!
