That's ugly! Did you keep your finger on the button?

Yup! That was a good 6.5fps burst

^^^ is exactly what happened to me during the cruise of the San Juan Islands...I had several of these types of shots and it frustrated me to NO END. I'm eventually going to send my M3 in to have it fixed.

I wonder if the 40D has the same prob. as the M3?

I think it does, Perm. I wonder if it's the same mechanism in there?

I am starting to wonder... and here is my thought about CA on the MarkIII/40D --- what if the AF prism that is out-of-whack on the MarkIII (and maybe 40D) is reflecting some light the wrong way and causing CA.... I don't know how all those prisms in the body work and I know even less about how light works (I just need to know it does :-D) --- but it is a thought...

That's what I told him to do. That one shot that's completely OOF is what convinced me that there was a problem.

I don't know. But it looks exactly like the problem I have, when I have a problem. Which fortunately doesn't happen too often.

What gets me about this one is nothing is in focus... Come on! Even if the background or foreground was in focus I could understand - but nothing???

I don't know but that's an interesting thought.
I will tell you though that I'm NOT sending my camera in to be repaired for a while...not til several have been done and turned out okay. Because right now I have about a 95% acceptable rate in regular shots and about %80 for birding...I'm okay with that and I don't want anything worse. When the M3 is on, it's AMAZING (and so are the ON shots from the 40D) but when it's off...it's terrible.

remember, that's exactly what I said in Sept. I'd never seen anything like that before...blurry yes but not completely OOF.

Hey Permie, Art Morris uses Photomatix Pro. I saw it on his laptop today.

Didn't see any craptactular tonemapped shots, though.

did you ever buy the full version of that or are you using the trial? I like it though I don't use it much but I have enjoyed it.

I bought the full version quite awhile back. That's what took my images to the craptacular level. Before that they just sucked.:lol:
