Totally random question. Can someone explain why I ought to get a flash diffuser for this wedding in a week and a half? I have never used one and am open to comments.

Permagrin wrote in post #4353552 well, I remember using eval and usually a +1/3 or +2/3 almost constantly, but I don't remember much about it....it's been a while tommykjensen wrote in post #4353576 I found out my MK III underexposes almost all the time so I need to set EC to +1/3 or +2/3. Thanks guys. Thought I was going mad. My 5D usually gets it spot on each and every time. Still, I need to get this 1D outside in good light to see how it performs out there. Permagrin wrote in post #4353583 I shoot in M constantly with my M3 so I have no idea if it does or doesn't. I'll have to check it out. Ahh.. I need to learn how to get more comfortable in M mode. Back in my old Zenith days, I used to get handy and guessing exposure, usually got it near right.

Not 100% sure yet. It is going to be inside a reception dinner style room. I don't believe there are high ceilings. (Scott and I are going to check it out soon hopefully.. stupid school getting in the way and such...). Other than that I don't know a lot about it.

My favorite thing to do is utilizing both (dial down and diffuser) then I totally under-do the flash and the picture sucks. That's my specialty. My tonemapping skills are not my only craptacular quality.

Inside, I generally find that I prefer bouncing whenever possible. Depends on how close folks are to walls. If I've got a lot of free background, a direct flash with a diffuser can work well. If they're close to walls, no diffuser's going to prevent a shadow behind them shot head on, or even at a 45. I'm with Wool for the most part -- outdoors I find myself using a diffuser and shooting head on most of the time, unless I really need the power/range. Even with a diffuser on, the flash will automatically crank up its output to put out the same amount of light, you just get a little wider source. Indoors, bouncing of the ceiling works pretty well, with a card to add a little catch light and forward reflection. I should take a picture of some of the diffusers I've got (got a kit that had all kinds of stuff in it). Inside I used the diffuser and even dialed it down a bit when I was getting bright spots on the skin. .. It's Permie's world, we just live in it! ~CDS
