Just because it's not recognized by the mainstream wedding photogs does not mean it's an invalid technique.
It's very avant garde.
David...no amount of winks is gonna save your hide.
And speaking of winks...what's up with that? Just curious.

Can someone explain why I ought to get a flash diffuser for this wedding in a week and a half? I have never used one and am open to comments. I use one when I'm doing event photography. Cuts down the harsh glare quite a bit. I don't bounce off anything, just shoot in manual wide open, high ISO, let the flash work in ETTL mode.

So balancing the exposures. Interesting. I might play around with that some more. If I decide I need/want a diffuser, they are pretty easy to pick up around locally.

Then again you still need to be able to stop action. Thanks! Exactly. But I think I let him down somewhat by swapping the 24-105 for the 24-70. For these types of shot though, 1/50 is about the right speed, people generally aren't moving fast enough to need to freeze the action that much.

I think Yoda does disco shots, where fast moving people are. I'm too old for such venues. Back the 24-x debate

I guess I will just practice my hand holding skills . I pulled off a bunch of 1/30 shots last night at 50mm so I am pleased with my form at them moment . I think that I will have to be doing a bit of both bounce and direct firing (depending on the background etc.) So I will have to experiment. I might end up getting a diffuser after al.As I said in my thread, at that kind of event, you don't want to be fiddling with the camera settings that much - it's easier to float around with the camera and shoot when you see the shot. I was in full manual, had the stoffen on the flash and had it pointing at the subject. It worked well in the vast majority of cases (only burnt out when subjects got too close).
