Did you use the MK III today Permie? It could be that unusual OOF behavior the camera is exhibiting in your shots.

do you really think that's what it is? "the finer the detail produced, the more apparent little flaws become"

I honestly think that it plays a role...

It's gotta be the MK III doing it's problem thingy with the dern sub-mirror.

Very true indeed!

Now that the 40D is back I plan on testing the CA and AF - I am not optical genius, but I suspect (as mentioned before) that if the AF mirror is off-tilt a wee bit, that if light hits it the "right" way it may cause CA on the sensor...

Yes I have but, not much action shooting really. I have been doing lots of candid photography with it in low light but, that's about it. I'm just waiting for Canon to call me on the fix.

I saw your shots Perma, #2 is great, very nice. I do not think there is anything wrong with you or the camera  Birding is just like that, there are hits and misses. #2, 4 and 5 would make the day for me.

Hey Boring Boys -- we're gonna need an explanation here.

I was pretty sure you guys said you couldn't go to Ankeny today. But I have visual evidence that shows you didn't keep your word.

What gives?!

your reading too much into them, they look fine. Its looks like you were shooting against a bright sky, that makes it tougher to get 100% tack sharp results, but 95% ain't bad.
