So the hint is in "drawing up"? Is it the tip of a pencil or marker or eraser of some sort? Am I getting warmer?

Lets look at the clues...

It's made of wood
have a 'job/purpose' to serve.

The piece you are looking at is about 3 inches long and is attached to the entire item that is 5 inches long.

think 'trades' and I don't mean woodworking

I'll be drawing up the next clue in a bit as soon as I can think of a way to pose it.
