The remains of Robert Bell's store in Coloma, a couple hundred feet from where James Marshall discovered gold in the tailrace of the lumber mill he was building for John Sutter. The gold discovery put California on the map (and ended up bankrupting both Marshall and Sutter in the process, though many other people -- like Robert Bell -- profited from that discovery):
