The late great Mountaineer and Writer A.A. Wainright described Glencoe, a steep mountain valley in Argyll, Scotland as "High Drama", and yesterday I took a trip there to see for myself.

To describe Glencoe as merely beautiful in my opinion pays no tribute to the impressive majesty of the place. It is so utterly awesome that words fail me to describe it.

Here are some photos of my visit there -

The entry to Glencoe from the North

...and at sunset

Two of the "Three Sisters", with the cloud-obscured summit of the Monroe, Stub Coire nan Lochan between them.

The Pass of Glencoe from Loch Achtriocht

The famous "Hidden Valley", where cattle was hidden after being stolen and in 1692 much of the Clan MacDonald were slaughtered by troops backed by the English. This was due to apparently not swearing allegiance in time to the new English king William III (of Orange).

Thanks for the tour, coolershaka.
No wonder there's so many photographers running about the mountains of Glencoe. Very impressive indeed.

Thanks, Frank.

Glencoe gets many visitors anyway as it is not only gorgeous to look at but offers much in the way of climbing and hillwalking, and is very easy to get to.

Also, it has much history attached to it, which helps..

I'm glad you all like them.

Regarding the road, I've had to live with it for the most part as the road remains close to Aonach Eagach for much of the valley. Also, it is major Scottish A-road, meaning that there is always traffic :-(
