Nick and Peter, you have both chose to get the grid line one(Ec-D).Do you do alot of landscape shots, as that would really help with leveling and for comp. But IMO looking at grid lines for say taking motosport shots or wildlife for example would drive me mad ?.Hence why i would choose one with just a circle showing the centre of the screen.

Sorry i'm just trying to understand ;)

Alan,

i agree with you about the grid one being a bit annoying for action shots because i tried it and it drove me nuts when out shooting BIF. it was useful for static shots because it also help you "see" the rules of thirds which also helps with composition. the good thing about the 1D is that you can change screens in about 20 seconds so it might be best to get one grid screen and one regular screen with circle and just switch depending on what you are shooting..

Alan, I liked the grid lines on the Nikon D200 even for motorsport, didn't have a problem with them. Maybe Ec-D are different to the D200 Grid lines so if I get one will have to take a gamble on that, like Blonde says is quick any easy to change focus screens. Thanks for letting us know.

Cheers

I can really see how the grid lines will help with the comp and knowing where the "line of thirds" are on the screen, hmmmm.

Seeing that its SO easy to change the screens, even out in the field.I might invest in a single circle one and the grid line one in the future .
