Hey all

I purchased a 30D about 5 months ago. I have taken roughly about 5k pics and never have had a single problem.

Recently i went out and bought the 50mm lens which is really cheap but people say good things about.

After twisting on new lens i noticed that the info in my view finder info was only lighting up half way and sometimes in just pieces.

I put the original lens back on thinking it was just the 50mm with no luck.
Has anybody else experienced anything similair.
Is it broken or is there a fix for this problem??

Thanx and all help appreciated...

Sounds to me like a problem in the body - I can't see how it's connected with the new lens, unless it was somehow grossly defective and fried the camera (horrors!)

So - DON'T try your 50 mm on another body. I'd check to see if any of the lens connection pins inside the body are mangled, but I doubt they are.

Try taking BOTH batteries out of the camera to give it a total reset, and try again.

If no joy, sorry - I think it's knackered. Hopefully both are covered by warranty. I hope there isn't a loophole so that when a faulty lens destroys a camera, only the lens is covered.

Good luck.

I tried the battery trick with no luck. I do remember when i first put the new lens in i didnt turn camera off could that have been the problem>?
If i cant figure this out soon im gonna have to mail it in with waranty hopefully they cover it. Im not gonna mention i used another lens then the kit one that came with it.

Thanx again...

It shouldn't matter if you used another lens. That is still covered under warranty. You bought a Canon camera that works with Canon lenses. If it was 3rd party I would be hesitant, but it is Canon and thus Canon supports it.

There is no reason they should deny you warranty for you doing what it was made for WITH canon's other compatible products :)
