Here is a shot I did with my 5D and 50 1.4. The serenity of the lady reading her paper looked so peaceful to me.
I posted in B/w forum also, so hope it's ok to double post here.

This is outside my normal subject area so I'm looking for any and all comment and critiques.

I can see that there is someone sitting on the bench but the person is too small to see. Since you wanted to capture the serenity surrounding her I think you should have been a bit closer. I was drawn to the chain on the edge of the path.

very nice shot, the 50 1.4 is the lens that i use the most.

May I ask you how you did your BW convertion? Theres various ways to achieve it and people do it very differently.

I use the black and white tool in Cs3 and I really like it but im always open to new options!

It's all POV to me. I rally like the B&W scheme, but can hardly discern the person in the exposure. I too, am drawn to the curved walk and chain.

Practice, practice, and practice some more, and when you think you have got it right, start over.

Bea and jtull, thanks for the feed back and I'm inclined to agree with you. I printed it 14x11 and when I look at the print, it just doesn't grab me. not sure if I can crop in any closer without really degrading. This is about a 50% crop already. I'll recrop and see what happens.

DJ, thanks also. As for the conversion. I almost always use the channel mixer, choosing the channel that gives the best version of what I'm looking for. Then convert to grayscale and use levels/brightness-contrast to tweak.
