so i am just watching the Transformers DVD special features and they are showing Michael Bay shooting a scene with the Canon 1200mm mounted on a video camera. this lens is HUGE!!!

Uh Snir, haven't you seen when some guy was testing out the 1200 on a video camera? He had a 2x and the EF to video cam mount converter was a 7.2x.

well i know the trouble i have with heat haze if i try to shoot to long with my 500mm so although this lens has the reach i doult it would be any good ,i think its more for just filling the frame with the subject , as aposed to shooting over a great disdence

he used it to view the scene in the airbase with the jets taking off so he needed a serious range to view the scene....

Wouldn't binoculars work?

I take it on hikes with me, it helps me see the crystal formations in clouds. Put a Macro filter on it and it rocks.

A lens like that has it's uses. But it's not an everydayer.
