I am looking to trade my 20d for one, mostly for the better AF for bird in flights as well as the build quality, and don't have the funds for a mkII.

what is your experience with the shutter life of the 1d, and does any one know if Canon will still replace the shutter on one.

thank you all in advance,
Dustin

They will if you pay for it. (fix bad shutter)
The shutter was rated for 150,000 shots if I recall correctly, obviously YMMV.. quite a bit in fact.

You could always call your local Canon service centre to ask?

Might be 100K actuations. Nevertheless, don't trust figures like this. I had a shutter fail on me at 42K shots when it was rated at 150K. Apparently, shooting at rapid bursts will reduce the life of the shutter.

But at the end of the day, costs to replace a shutter are generally easy to look past when you consider how many pictures you could make with your camera.

Keep in mind you won't be only trading your 20D, but adding some cash as well.

It won't be much cash... if any. A used 1D can be had for about $750-$800 these days. The 20D is probably good for about $550-$600
