350D jump to 5D?

I guess I'm awaiting any official announcement on a EOS 5D replacement to see what kind of price drop will follow for the 5D, but have read on the forums that it has already been dropping. What is the normal price for a New EOS 5D body? I'd like to get a full frame body. (yes, I know my Tokina lens will not work)

What kind of image quality changes will I see from the 350D right away?

High ISO performance: be prepared to be IMPRESSED :)

But really, the most visible image change will be when you look through the viewfinder for the first time. I made this exact same upgrade and it blew my mind. Absolutely.

Also, be prepared for your 24-70 to become very wide..

I did just this jump - 350D to 5D. The IQ change is really something in my view - lots more "wow" factor in the images. My first images through the 5D blew my socks off. There isn't a day that goes by from shooting with the 5D that I don't marvel at the image quality.

Shooting the 5D is a lot like shooting larger format film than it is shooting 35mm. The high ISO performance is terrific - I don't hesitate to shoot ISO1250, for example. I also find the 5D more forgiving in exposure - less blown highlights, less noisy shadows.

In many ways, this is very much a breakthrough camera body. A '6D' may be better, but the 5D sets a very high bar for sure.

I also made the exact switch a few months ago. The only thing I regret is that I didn't get the 5D sooner.

I made the same jump. Its one you won't regret in any way. The viewfinder, the LCD, the DOF, IQ, focusing, ISO performance, camera build and feel to name a few are all much improved. You wont miss the tokina a bit as the 24-70 will be almost as wide on the FF as the Tok was on the XT.

i made the jump from 300D to 400D for a month then 5D...biggest thing ive noticed is the huge viewfinder, and yes my 35L is finally wide like its supposed to be.

I'm tempted to say that the biggest difference you will notice is the big gaping hole in your bank account but that would be petty and I'm not like that ;-)a

LemmingLover,

If you're talking P&S snapshot stuff, of course, what's the difference, in fact how about you trade your 400 and I trade my 5D in for a Rebel 300 and a kit lens?:)? Or I'll trade you my pocket-size Canon SD 630 for your Rebel 400? It's all the same, right?

But, do you see what I mean, when you get the taste of what an image can mean, and be, why denigrate the aspiration? Be what you can be!

Tony,

Thanks for your comments - it seems that you missunderstood my comments so here's what I meant:

350D =Cheap SLR
5D=Expensive SLR
Difference=The "big gaping hole" reffered to above

Not too sure what P&S, SD630 or both of us trading down has to do with anything.

I did the 350 to 5 jump earlier in the year and, as everybody has said, its an amazing difference.

I picked up the 350 the other day and thought to myself how much it felt like a toy in my hand compared to the 5.

Go for it, you won't regret it.

Oooh, exciting. I'm glad to read this. I am anxiously awaiting my 5D tomorrow!! I feel ya' on the big gaping bank account hole, though. EEK!

Congrats on the new camera!
