To anyone who's on the fence about a 40D, let me help. Last night I went to the AST Dew Tour with Freestyle Motocross (FMX), Skate, BMX and Wakeboarding events. Just last month I traded up from a 10D and 1D (for walkaround and sports, respectively) to a 40D only. I also bought a 70-200 f2.8L (non-IS) to replace my f4L (non-IS).

The tracking of the 40D in AI servo mode is AMAZING! I nailed so many great shots because of the focus, the ability to record smoothly high ISO (most of my shots were ISO3200), and the high FPS (6.5 is close enough to 8fps for me - when comparing it to the 1D).

Anyone who is thinking of buying either the camera or the lens, do yourself a favor and do it. The worst part of the whole thing is that I took over 1850 photos in less than 6 hours, and now I have too many keepers!

LOL!!! Since moving up from the XTi, I have had the same problem. It has made me use a lot more 'finger control' when shooting. I take half the shots and have twice the keepers.

Love my 40D.

1. Did you up from the 1D original, or was it a Mark II/N/III? The 40D has me curious, but I can't see replacing the 1D II with it...

2. Have any issues with your schnoz grease on the huge LCD?

3. Show pics!

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Great question! I have a large schnoz and I only grease up the lower left quarter of the huge LCD. YMMV

1. Original Dinosaur - which was still a great camera when I sold it.

2. Yes, same as mikeivan. It's easy to clean, though.

3. How about some FMX...

I have a little schnoze, but was really loving that screen and the deliciously large letters when I used the 40d this weekend. Totally in love with it. I also used the 5d, but need to spend a little more time getting used to it. I was very surprised that I liked the 40d over the 5d, but was shooting Aikido...40d whitebalance better, and AI great and fast!!! The 5d protested with some busy messages. Some of the images with it looked like it was back focusing. But need to really just take it out and practice in quiet environment.

I have to say my 40d is sweet as well. I used it for the first time this weekend to shoot some soccer and the focus was outstanding! I missed 2, but thast was me not paying attention to the action. I came off an Olympus e500 which was nice on the pic but slower on the AF.
