I have the Epson R1800 and am quite pleased... Also, purchased it refurb from Epson with the exception of a minor scratch on a tray could not tell it from new!
Shipped and full load of link for about $420 to my door. (7 months ago)
Just checked the price on the Epson web site, $100 rebate so a new one (that has an insert to print on CD/DVD's) $449. Looks like a great deal for a new unit.

The Canon MP960 (external link) that Kim has looks good, especially with 7 ink cartridges, and I like the document feeder idea. The new Canon MP610 (external link) also looks good, it's a little smaller and cheaper, doesn't have the document feeder and only has 5 color tanks. After reading a bunch of reviews i'm leaning towards the MP610 over the MP960, though I can't give a good reason why - maybe just because it's newer. Both print direct to CD/DVD if you're not in the US (i'm not), and can probably be hacked to do it inside the US. The other option is an ip4300, but i'd quite like a photocopier. Any thoughts?

Tim,
I'm not sure about mp610, but mp960 prints photo/graphics/text quite well, which is hard to find in an all-in-one printer. It also has a pigment black ink (for printing text), and I really think 7 cartridges (red, cyan, yellow, black, pigment black, photo magenta, photo cyan) is quite an advantage over 5 cartriges ink system when it comes to printing photos (for a wider color gamut.)

Anyway, maybe the new printers have better technology, but i'm pretty happy with MP960 output (and it doesn't suck up as much ink as my brother's Epson RX800)

Anyone has experiences with the new Kodak printers (EASYSHARE 5100/5300/5500), which they claim consume about 50% or less ink than the norm ? Again, you would need to buy and test it out rather than taking their words ;)

NOTE: Before buying MP960, I also was looking at Kodak Professional 8400 (dye sublimation printer, and an older model of 8500) printer, but it was a bit more expensive then, and you can print only 8x10 (or similar size) paper. Cost / page averages out to about 1.88 per 8x10 print (paper + ribbon). Nowadays you can buy Kodak 8400 for about $200 (I saw one from shop.com just a couple of weeks ago.)

Re-reading the reviews I think the MP960 is the best choice, and it's only a little more expensive than the MP610 model. I'll order one tomorrow, thanks Kim :)
