You can not own handguns, or automatic weapons in the UK and the Police visit me regularly to check on my gun safe and ammunition, but we have an excellent record of safety and behaviour within the legally held weapons community in the UK is is just the thugs with the illegally held weapons that cause the problems. You can own pistols in the UK though - as long as they're blackpowder. Rhys

You do have to jump thru a lot of "hoops" though. You have to pay a $200 tax on each item, you have to submitt finger prints and photos, and a sign off from the local cheif law enforcement officer, to the BATFE and get an approved tax stamp. Mark. i thought it was a class 3 firearms license that was needed for full auto & silenced? 30D & 28-135 kit lens, 50mm F/1.8 MKII, monopod, tipod w/pan tilt head, 430EX w/ sto-fen omni bounce,

Think of one of the basic laws of physics. "For every action, there is an equal and opposit reaction". If you had a gun that could knock someone end over end, it would do the same to the person pulling the trigger. No, it wouldn't. We just studied this in physics. Force is controlled in part by mass. Therefore, the force applied to the gunman's shoulder from the stock is not the same as the force the bullet applies to its target upon impact. This is because the gun has many times the mass of the bullet. There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs. ~ Ansel Adams

By the way Malone, maybe you should stick to potato guns. ![]() The propellant in a cartridge exerts equal force to the projectile and to the receiver. As the receiver and barrel encapsulate the bullet and as the bullet has no resistance against it, it moves down the barrel, picking up speed as the propellant expands behind it. This typically takes 5" until the propellant is completely burnt in a pistol cartridge. Those with shorter barrels actually waste propellant power as the propellant continues to expand after the bullet has left the barrel. Rhys
