It looks like a lot of fun - sure there's a serious side to it all too. I liked the series, felt the colours were good - kinda sombre, suited the subject matter.

I personally feel that providing sensible laws are sensibly enforced, there should be no reason why people can't shoot for sport and recreation. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns. As witnessed in the UK.

But Ed has it right, they are scary numbers!

That is not strictly true, if you have a need then you can own rifles of different calibres I have several ranging from a .17 HMR to a .243 and a couple are fitted with moderators (silencers) which have to be specified on your licence.

You can not own handguns, or automatic weapons in the UK and the Police visit me regularly to check on my gun safe and ammunition, but we have an excellent record of safety and behaviour within the legally held weapons community in the UK is is just the thugs with the illegally held weapons that cause the problems.

You can own pistols in the UK though - as long as they're blackpowder.

I should know - my dad is the secretary of one of the gun clubs there.

Here's one of mine (I have several). This is my home defence gun.

You don't need a license to own full auto / Short barreld rifles / supressors in most States. You do have to jump thru a lot of "hoops" though. You have to pay a $200 tax on each item, you have to submitt finger prints and photos, and a sign off from the local cheif law enforcement officer, to the BATFE and get an approved tax stamp.

Mark.

i thought it was a class 3 firearms license that was needed for full auto & silenced?

i know its legal for anyone to own a gun plus the equipment needed to make it full auto, its just once you put the two together that it becomes illegal if you dont have the right paperwork.

side note: my aunt & uncle used to live next to a guy who worked for the CIA and hand made silencers. he would often go and teach new guys how to make them by hand as well even after he was retired .

and due to the job my aunt had before she retired, i beleive her as well as my uncle due to his job haha

30D & 28-135 kit lens, 50mm F/1.8 MKII, monopod, tipod w/pan tilt head, 430EX w/ sto-fen omni bounce,

On the brown truck, due 10/26 ... 70-200 2.8L IS :D

As far as flying throug the air goes, it's impossible. Think of one of the basic laws of physics. "For every action, there is an equal and opposit reaction". If you had a gun that could knock someone end over end, it would do the same to the person pulling the trigger.

No, it wouldn't. We just studied this in physics. Force is controlled in part by mass. Therefore, the force applied to the gunman's shoulder from the stock is not the same as the force the bullet applies to its target upon impact. This is because the gun has many times the mass of the bullet.

By the way Malone, maybe you should stick to potato guns. ;)

The propellant in a cartridge exerts equal force to the projectile and to the receiver. As the receiver and barrel encapsulate the bullet and as the bullet has no resistance against it, it moves down the barrel, picking up speed as the propellant expands behind it. This typically takes 5" until the propellant is completely burnt in a pistol cartridge. Those with shorter barrels actually waste propellant power as the propellant continues to expand after the bullet has left the barrel.

The effect of firing a bullet are that as the bullet goes forward, the gun goes backward (or tries to). This is where inertia takes over. With a heavy pistol, the pistol absorbs most of the force of the backwards thrust. The bullet continues forward, slowing down gradually as air resistance slows it or until it hits something/somebody. The effect of having a titanium-barrelled, .357 Magnum with an alloy frame is that as the pistol is so light, it has a lot more recoil so you feel more of the force. A gun-shop owner bought one for himself as a concealed weapon. His problem is that it's so light that it bruises his hand when he fires it.

Then we get to the physics of hydraulic expansion of hollowpoint bullets and why they don't work in pistol ammunition but that's a completly different ball game :p

By the way, keeping this photo related... How about this - I used 2 sheets of 8.5x11 paper - one each side for this photo.

Ahhh... A little research shows that LM is not afraid of guns at all. I've been duped!

Yea! He's probably pulled the trigger on a howitzer.
