So for people who don’t take pictures for a living, do you bring your camera everywhere you go? I work in the video game industry, but I’m thinking about bringing my camera with me to work everyday so I will never miss a shot. Thought?

Overall, I have one with me probably 85% of the time.

100% when I'm on the road working (Sports TV industry...) so I can continue my "Scenes From The Road" galleries (over on PBase...)

It's usually close by - boot of the car normally. I always take it on business trips because I get to go to intresting places and I like to remind my wife how tough my job really is ;-)a

Probably 95% of the time I carry a SD 630 P&S pocket camera.

If I am going somewhere where I consider "serious shooting" a real likelihood, I pack some gear.

Just to buck the trend, I only bring my gear to specific events.

Funny, I pack gear too when I'm going somewhere I think might require serious shooting.

Though I think we're talking completely different subjects here.

OP... my camera gear is usually within 150'. I don't bring a body/lens into my office very often.

I take my camera almost everywhere. To class, to work, to the bathroom...

Okay, maybe not always to the bathroom.

Yes, I'm an Apple field engineer so I never know where I will be, so I use my trusty MicroTrekker 200 which has room for a couple of lenses and my tools I need to do my work. Then when I'm driving along and see a picture I can just pull over and get it... most of the time :)

I'm OS for my work at least 80% of the year and the majority of the gear comes with me. It usually comes to the "site" most days rather than leaving it in the hotel each day...

I always have a camera with me - at the very least my IXUS p&s but most of the time I have a DSLR too.

I keep a sealed disposable camera in each car. Mainly for the obvious, but just in case of a "wish I had a camera with me" moment.

Funny you should exclude the pros, I was at a meeting of about 25 professionals where the speaker was a name brand photographer. Someone suggested we should have a group shot with him. One problem, none of us had a camera.:)
