Hey all,

Looking for a new camera bag for wedding gigs that will fit these stuff:
5d with 70-200 2.8 IS attached
30d with 17-55 IS attached
2 580 ex
Sigma 24-70
Canon 50mm 1.4
2 Demb Flip it diffusers
4 cases of AA batteries (each case holds 4 AA)
4 extra Canon batteries
Manfrotto 055 Xpro with 488 rc2 head attached

I have a roller bag but found it inconvenient as I wanted to shoot and follow the wedding party but couldnt cause that left me with one free hand.

Vertex 200 AW seemed to fit the bill for my needs. Keeps both my hands free and free to shoot. Or even the Magnum AW but then the tripod would be a hassle.

What do you guys reckon?

The best (only?) way to choose a bag is go into a store. Ditch the tripod, you have IS lenses and shouldn't need it walking around. I have some LowePro bag that's good (see my gear list), will fit all that, but getting into the top's a real hassle.

Personally, I would not wear a backpack to a wedding.

What do you suggest? Mine's a rolling backpack, quite compact given what it holds, and decent looking. Hiking through parks or carrying gear to some shooting locations a backpack is invaluable.

Well, just in my case, I tried the backpack thing one time for exactly what you described and it was very cumbersome IMO (following couples through parks, engagement type settings), but I agree that backpacks definately have their place, just not at a wedding.

Personally, I use a larger professional looking roller for all my work now. It's easy to work out of, lug around, drop and shoot. I have no problems carrying two cameras with seperate lenses and shooting. The key here is to have assistant really. Sometimes I do; sometimes I don't.

All that being said, I am looking for a larger sling pack that I can carry all the "extras" in since I generally carry both cameras out of the bag. If there were speedier, professional "looking" backpacks out there, I'd probably consider one again. I just hate the backpack look at a wedding. It looks unprofessional IMO.

For me and some others, a backpack is just not smart. Some people just carry took much on a daily basis for that type of 'drop n' dig' functioning. I am on the move a lot, need equipment and even the ability to carry my laptop everywhere I go. These are all things that have to be taken into consideration. So, there's really no "best" answer to this queston. I agree; visiting a store (every one in your area) is the ONLY way to pick a bag.

By the way Tim, a backpack similar to yours is the one I've been wanting to check out now for a few months - the Rolling CompuTrekker Plus AW. I just haven't been able to find one local. It's a little more professional looking too.

The backpack I use is decent, I can carry it and still use both arms, shooting with two cameras - not at the same time of course ;)

Thanks for everyones opinions. The 200 aw looks like it will do the job. In all honesty I don't care much for not looking professional because of the bag I have to carry my tools.
I'm pretty sure i'll be remembered by the photographs I can produce and not by "That photographer had the ugliest backpack." I'm a guy and i'm after practicality and what would make my job a little easier

That's a great attitude to have (I'm being serious) and you are right, the bag does not make the artist. ;) Hell, Tim's got me re-thinking my game now.

I've had quite a few people book me just from seeing me work at a wedding, so I don't think it gives too bad an impression!

Get the 300 if you want to carry two bodies, I have the 200, it will not fit both the 70-200 F/2.8 and 17-55 with bodies attached

I don't think mine will fit two bodies with 17-55 and 70-200 IS attached. I keep the 17-55 on a body, the other body and lenses are in there not assembled.

But I am pretty sure the Vertex 300 or Photo Trekker will do what you want ;)
