I just got the package from UPS and was pretty happy to sign for a new 40D ordered through Amazon.com (they went through Pavalian electronics in NY)

I opened the box and something seemed strange...
there's no warranty anywhere to be found!
also, there is no spanish Manual (i remember there was one when i opened the xti)

what's the deal? Is this thing "grey market" ... should I return it?

Yes, it's gray market. I'll knowingly buy non-US lenses, but I'd be very uncomfortable with doing the same with a body (esp. one that is relatively new into it's production). In fact all of the 17-85mm 40D kits online, that I've seen, were from gray-market distributors.

Might just ask them first. It could be that the warranty was forgotten or it could be gray.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

gjl711 would be correct.

You paid for warranty as it showed on your invoice. Call them up and say that the warranty card is missing. If they say that it is grey market, say that you got mislead into thinking that the camera came with warranty because it's on your invoice. I am sure it is just a misunderstanding on the merchant part.

Let us know what the vendor says. *To change the language - go to the 2nd "wretch" icon, third option down.

I just purchased a 40D body today at Norman Camera in Kalamazoo, along with a Mack warranty. There was a Canon warranty card and two manuals in the box--English and Spanish. I was instructed not to register the camera with Canon or Mack for 30 days or so becasue if it fails during that time, the store will do an over-the-counter swap with me.

I could have saved some money by going mail order, but it's service like that I am willing to pay a bit more for--it is worth it to me to not have head aches I don't need.

If I recall correctly, when I sent my Drebel in for shutter replacement under warranty, all I think I had to send it was a copy of my invoice that showed the purchase date to verify it was less than a year old. A warranty card may not be needed because my serial number was on the sales invoice.

I just got my 40D also and notices the same thing about warranty and extra manual. Looks like they may have taken the time to reset my camera to English.

I checked on Canon website and got this info on what is covered by warranty. It says...."
when purchased and used in the United States or Canada".

So I understand it would be covered by Canon warranty. Also Canon does not require a warranty card, only proof of purchase.
