I just got the package from UPS and was pretty happy to sign for a new 40D ordered through Amazon.com (they went through Pavalian electronics in NY)

I opened the box and something seemed strange...
there's no warranty anywhere to be found!
also, there is no spanish Manual (i remember there was one when i opened the xti)

what's the deal? Is this thing "grey market" ... should I return it?

Why don't you give Canon a call at 1-800-OKCANON.

They can explain the warranty, if any, to you.

Jim

Ditto. Quote the camera serial number. They'll know if it was imported by Canon (and thus covered by their warranty), or is a grey import (and not).

just an update for anyone who's been following along:

I contacted the seller and they've offered a 100% refund or a 3 year Mack warranty, so everything seems to have been cleared up.

does anyone have any experience with Mack ?

I also got an email from Canon. A copy of the sales receipt will be required as proof of warranty. Since this was purchase in the U.S. I see no problem.

....but if anyone is purchasing a new camera or lens and the price appears lower than the norm...check it out first.

I purchased my 40D in Japan which comes with a 1 year warranty and of course the menu is set in Japanese. It's a snap to change languages. Just a setting in your menu control.

That is great. See what happens when you call Canon first instead of going back and forth ? You get a camera with 3 years warranty and the one year with canon. Now do you official duck shot and later a focus test.!

Congrats.!

FWIW, no warranty, on anything (at least in the US), depends upon you sending in a warranty card. Those cards are just for marketing research, and for the manufacturer to get your name and address for future marketing. If you can document the date of purchase with a receipt (as indicated by several posts on this thread), your warranty should be honored. Likewise, buying a used piece of equipment with the original warranty card does not provide you with any warranty protection. They are still going to ask for the original purchase receipt, which you will not have.

Thats a good point that I think may not have been brought up yet.

I suspect registering things (like cameras) on the vendors web site is a good idea for any dealings with them and support.

EDIT - I think the OP said he had a receipt from AMAZON

Amazon actually went through another seller, Pavilion electronics in NY, so the reciept is from them.
