I'm asking because I have noticed a degrade in performance over time in my bp511a batteries used on my 10/20/30D cameras. now, I have a super duper kicka$$ charger for AA batts that can bring old dead batteries to life, so I figure there's gotta be a way to do with my camera batteries too.

I mean, my 1d3 comes with a charger that will recondition the battery, I suppose isn't not unreasonable to want the same for my other batteries.

anyone know of a charger to do this? yeah I'm a tree hugger and would rather recondition than throw out and buy new sterlingteks.... (which by the way, I have found to have a shorter lifespan than genuine canons)

I think this is what you are looking for:

I've used mine to recondition my cell phone batteries. I'm sure it would work on camera batteries since it is pretty much universal. It has floating pins you adjust to make contact with the battery contacts.

Canon 1DMKIII, 7D w/WFT-E5A, 40D modded with Baader filter, Celestron CPC1100, Astro-Tech AT8RC on a Celestron CGEM, some fast lenses, and some tripods...

BP511s are LIthion Ion cells, which have a shelf life. Their performance degrades over time. I also don't think you have to recondition LIONs. *scratches head*

who knows. All I know is that my Mark III also has a li-ion battery too, and it comes from Canon with a reconditioning charger which restores performance after a lot of charge/discharge cycles. If it works on the LP-E4 battery, then why not the bp511a?
