Try a "color balanced" napkin. that's what the ebay gadget is worth. You can score a free napkin at most fast food restaurants.

Did you miss my point that if it isn't color balanced (neutral), it doesn't matter WHAT you use and you don't need to buy anything. Pringles lids, napkins, a piece of paper - anything works if you don't care about the precision of the white balance.

Lighten up and lose the profanity.

Get over it.

Why not one UV filter and place the filter material between the diffuser and UV filter?

This is great! It will get you in the ball park. To be honest, most people don't need super accurate white balance. I just happen to be a stickler.

This project should work well, and I'm impressed.

That said, I have had a 77mm expodisc for a few years now, and I believe what you pay for isn't just the cost of materials you're paying for the certification of neutrality, as well as 18% transmission. For the latter, that allows you to measure incident light for metering.

Recently, I discovered my expodisc was perhaps slightly warm (or cool, as it balanced out to be warm), and contacted ExpoImaging regarding this, and they had me send it in - they confirmed the tad warmness, and replaced the filters and recertified for neutrality, free of charge, several years out of warranty! That's great service, right there.

To be honest, it's concerning for it to have been 'slightly off', considering that's the entire purpose of product, but can't complain about the top quality response I received.

I love to use the expodisc because it's so simple. Easier than carrying around a grey card, easier to use (don't have to worry about filling the frame), possible use as an incident metering device, and nice and quick to check for dust.
