I was just going to say that. Get a red and the canon adapter to put the 600mm on and you will be set.

Just to say I have it.:) Don't know what else you would use it for, might as well just get a digital camcorder and video it instead, But i would be cool to have it.

I'm just amazed they still missed shooting ball on bat. How many frames per second do they actually need for that?

For everyone questioning about money issue. Bert is working for USA Today, which can be considered quite big newspaper, right? ;) And considering baseball is quite important sport in USA, and especially when it comes to Barry Bonds record braking 700 and something home run hit, money is not really all that much of an issue.
Besides... when you start counting a bit, it's not all that much. Every shooter has at least 2 cameras anyway, when you take another camera or two from office, and another lens or two, it's not really all that big deal. It's not like making few $10k investment just for one match, even though I guess something like this would be also possible when so much is at stake. You have to consider, when it's about large papers or agencies, price of 1 or 2 cameras is minor expense. Just for comparison, I was just talking with friend few days ago, that whole agency (name is not important now) is considering switching to Nikon due all 1dmk3 problems and Canon's attitude with this. And cost? About 1.5mio eur. So you have to look on all this from different point of view, not from some average Joe, who can hardly afford 40d, point of view. And don't understand me wrong... I don't mean anything bad with this "average Joe" thing.

They would probably get $100,000 for the right shot, that would easily cover the time and cost of the gear :)

like others have said they wouldnt own the gear the agency would so the gear cost really doesnt come in to play

they are employed by the newspaper to get the shots so i dont think they would get paid for the actual winning shot (maybe a small cut?), its all about getting it first in the newspaper and getting the shot nobody else has
