30D, How to use custom white balance?

I thought i had it figured out.

Go to custom white balance, select an image. Press SET. Then set white balance to the one that sort of looks like a flower (two trianlges and a circle)

Is that the right way?

Cause when i got the pictures on my computer, the colors were wayyyyyy off, but looked right on the cameras lcd.

That's correct - but had you photographed a neutral grey or white subject, and not blown out the highlights?

Try to balance on someting gray. If you have an 18% Gray card use it. If not find someting that is light gray and take a photo, then set that. Yes you are doing it right also make sure you are in a Creative setting P-M mode.

I wasn't neutral gray. So i will have to try that. Need to get a big gray card.

Never used anything besides p-m and a dep. Want a 40D to add C1-3.

It doesn't have to be that big. The grey (or white) area just has to fill the circle (spotmeter circle) in the viewfinder.
