I don't have a 40D, so can someone explain the feature (well, how it works)? Does it require a double shutter trip to expose the CMOS chip prior to exposure, then to cock and re-expose?

Only do that in tricky lighting situations where i dont want to snap off 50 test shots. Angus

With prices on cameras such as these heading the way they are, I would imagine this is exactly why Canon included it. It doesn't do anyone any harm though.

So long as it's enabled in the menu, you just press the "Set" button and the mirror pops up and you get a Live View.
